how did you first hear about the trade and how did you get into your first role?

Heard about the trade through a friend. Walked into the IBEW hall and went through the apprenticeship program.

What's one thing about this work that outsiders totally misunderstand?

People think we just drive trucks and climb poles. What they don’t see is the danger and the responsibility. One wrong move can cost a life.

Have you worked in both union and non-union environments? What felt different?

Non-union treats you like a number. Union gives you training, safety, respect, and a brotherhood that always has your back.

Title

People with grit, work ethic, and the ability to put the crew first thrive. People chasing just a paycheck don’t last.

What kind of person thrives in this work?
 What kind of person doesn’t?

What’s the most high-pressure or intense situation you’ve had to handle?

Storm work. Worst conditions, long hours, and no room for mistakes. Training and trust in your crew get you through it.

What’s something that went wrong on the job but taught you something important?

Learned quick that slowing down and sticking to the basics keeps everyone safe.

What’s your proudest moment on the job so far?

Topping out as a journeyman after years of sacrifice.

What’s the hardest part of the job and how do you handle it?

Being away from family and missing time at home. You learn to keep your head strong and remember why you do it.

What do you wish someone had told you when you first started on the job?

How much sacrifice comes with this life — missing holidays, birthdays, and family time.

How do you handle stacking OT or traveling for the job while having a family?

The hours and travel test your family life. Having a support system that understands the sacrifice makes it possible

What advice would you give to someone who's just thinking about joining the trades?

This isn’t just a job, it’s a LIFESTYLE

Respect it

Commit to it

and it’ll change your life.

What’s your career path look like (past, present, and future plans)?

Started as a groundman, worked my way up through the apprenticeship, now a journeyman lineman

Future is about providing, climbing higher and

leaving a legacy my family can be proud of.

We're High Voltage Industries

High Voltage Industries started because the most dangerous and essential work in America is also the most invisible. You put your lives on the line every single day and people don't even know what you do.

We're here to share your stories and honor the sacrifices you make so people can flip a switch every day. And we make gear for those who literally risk their lives to keep the world running.

This is your story

Working in conditions others won't face, taking risks others can’t even imagine, solving problems others can't understand, carrying responsibility others can't handle. The grid doesn't maintain itself.

We're telling that story.
